If you're running ads, sending newsletters, or posting on social without UTM parameters, your analytics can't tell you which effort actually brought the customer. This free UTM builder generates clean campaign URLs for Google Analytics — fill in the fields, copy the link, done.

The discipline matters more than the tool: agree on lowercase naming conventions (utm_source=linkedin, not LinkedIn) and reuse the same campaign names everywhere, or your reports will fragment into duplicates.

How to use

  1. Paste the full destination URL, including https://.
  2. Set source (where: google, linkedin, newsletter) and medium (how: cpc, social, email).
  3. Name the campaign consistently — pick a convention like product-launch-2026q3 and stick to it.
  4. Use term for paid keywords and content to tell ad variants apart. Copy the link into your campaign.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between utm_source and utm_medium?

Source is the specific site or property the click comes from (google, linkedin, partner-newsletter). Medium is the channel type (cpc for paid search, social, email, referral). Together they answer 'where from' and 'by what kind of channel'.

Should I use UTM links for internal links on my own site?

No — UTM parameters on internal links overwrite the visitor's original attribution, so you lose the real source of the session. Only use them on links that point to your site from somewhere else.

Do UTM parameters hurt SEO?

Not when used properly: they belong on links in ads, emails, and social posts, which search engines treat separately. Make sure your pages have canonical tags (they should anyway) so any indexed UTM variant consolidates to the clean URL.
