Higher keeps more detail and makes larger files. 80 to 90 is the range most people cannot tell from the original.

AVIF has to be written on our server, so the file is uploaded, converted in memory and sent straight back. It is never written to disk and never stored. Need test files? Try our free sample files.

This free SVG to AVIF converter turns your .svg images into .avif files. SVG stays sharp at any size, which is exactly why it is not always what you want. Rasterising it gives you a fixed-pixel image that any tool can open, embed or upload.

Because neither reading SVG nor writing AVIF is something browsers can do, this one runs on our server: the file is converted in memory and sent straight back. It is never written to disk, never logged and never stored.

How to convert SVG to AVIF

  1. Drop your SVG file onto the box above, or click it to choose from your computer. Up to 20 at once.
  2. Set the quality if you want to trade size against detail. 85 is a good default; below about 70 the loss starts to be visible.
  3. Download each converted file, or pick them up one by one from the list.

What changes when you convert SVG to AVIF

SVG is lossless and AVIF is not, so this conversion discards some image data permanently. At quality 85 the difference is invisible for photographs; for screenshots, text and line art it shows as faint haloing around edges.

SVG is vector art, so it is rasterised at its declared size. The result is fixed-resolution: enlarging it afterwards will soften it, which the original SVG would not have done.

SVG: XML-described vector artwork that stays sharp at any size. It can be rasterised to a pixel format, but the reverse is not a conversion — turning a photograph into real vectors is tracing, and it is a different job.

AVIF: Built on the AV1 video codec, typically half the size of JPG at the same quality, with transparency and wide colour. Browsers can display it, but almost no desktop software can open or edit it, which is why converting out of AVIF is such a common need.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert SVG to AVIF?

Drop your .svg file onto the box on this page and the .avif file is ready to download in a second or two. There is no signup, no email, no watermark and no file limit beyond about 4 MB per upload — larger images are re-encoded smaller in your browser first, and the page says so when that happens.

Is this SVG to AVIF converter free?

Yes, completely, with no account, no trial and no watermark on the output. We are a consultancy and these tools exist because we needed them ourselves; there is nothing to buy on this page.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

This one has to run on our server, because browsers cannot read SVG. The file is converted in memory and returned immediately — it is never written to disk, never logged and never stored. If that is not acceptable for your file, use a desktop tool instead.

Will converting to AVIF reduce the quality?

SVG is lossless and AVIF is not, so this conversion discards some image data permanently. At quality 85 the difference is invisible for photographs; for screenshots, text and line art it shows as faint haloing around edges.

Can I convert several SVG files at once?

Yes, up to 20 files in one go. Drop them all onto the box together and each one appears in the results list with its own download button.
