TXT and Markdown compared
| TXT | Markdown | |
|---|---|---|
| Full name | Plain Text | Markdown |
| Extension | .txt | .md, .markdown |
| MIME type | text/plain | text/markdown |
TXT: No formatting, no metadata, no ambiguity. Useful as a destination when you want the words and nothing else, and as a source when a system refuses anything richer.
Markdown: Plain text that reads as text and renders as formatted output. The default for READMEs, documentation and static sites, because it stays diffable in version control.
