Sample EPS Files — Download Free Encapsulated PostScript Files
Encapsulated PostScript · .eps · MIME type application/postscript
Download a sample EPS file for testing a print workflow, a vector converter or a file-upload validator. These are plain Encapsulated PostScript 3.0 documents you can open in a text editor and read: a conforming header, a correct %%BoundingBox and %%HiResBoundingBox, a small prolog of reusable procedures, then filled paths, a stroked outline and text in Helvetica.
EPS is the format that refuses to die in print and prepress, and the one that most often exposes bugs, because it is a programming language rather than a data format. A parser that assumes EPS is declarative will work on simple files and fail on real ones. These sit deliberately in between: readable enough to debug against, structured enough to be a fair test.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between EPS and PDF?
EPS is a single-page PostScript program with a bounding box, meant to be embedded inside another document. PDF is a paginated, self-contained document format derived from PostScript but declarative rather than executable. PDF has replaced EPS nearly everywhere except parts of print and prepress, where EPS files and the tools that consume them are still in daily use.
Why will my EPS not open in an image viewer?
Because EPS is PostScript source, not a raster image, so something has to interpret it first — usually Ghostscript. Applications that appear to open EPS directly are either calling Ghostscript behind the scenes or displaying an embedded preview bitmap. These files have no embedded preview, deliberately, so they exercise the real interpreter path.
Can I open these in a text editor?
Yes, and it is worth doing. They are clean 7-bit ASCII and small enough to read in full, which makes them useful for learning what a conforming EPS actually looks like and for debugging a parser against a known-good file.
Can I use these commercially?
Yes. The artwork is simple geometry we generated ourselves and the text is set in Helvetica, a base-14 font that is referenced rather than embedded. Nothing here belongs to anyone else, so use the files freely with no attribution required.
Are these EPS files safe to download?
Yes. Every file is generated by our own open script from scratch — nothing is scraped or user-uploaded — and contains no scripts, macros or executables. The SHA-256 of each file is published on this page so you can verify what you received.
Can I use the sample EPS files commercially?
Yes. They are free for any purpose, including commercial products, test suites, demos and redistribution, with no attribution required. There is nothing to license and no one to ask.
Can I hotlink these files or use them in CI?
Yes. Every link is a stable direct URL over HTTPS with Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * and long cache headers, so curl, wget, fetch() and test runners can pull them directly. A JSON index of every file is linked from each page (see the command-line section).
